“Eat, Prey, Love: A Modest Proposal for Ensuring Gender Equality Through Selective Dietary Practices; or, a Geriatric Millennial’s Guide to #GirlDinner” by Jilly Dreadful is exactly what the title suggests: a darkly humorous exploration of targeted cannibalism that starts out as a TikTok trend. In impeccably rendered faux-essayistic prose, Dreadful describes the trend’s beginning (an ear on a plate), its evolution, its influence on society, and the possible ways it continues even after its social-media-visible stage. The story is full of ominous hunger, and the idea of cannibalism as a tool for societal change is both disturbing and morbidly hilarious.
